Faith Formation

Vision:
All members of a family embark on a joyful faith journey that allows the light of the Holy Spirit to envelop them every day.
    Mission:
We assist families in developing faithful Christian Catholics by providing spiritual enrichment, knowledge of the Catholic faith, and teachings of the Church in a nurturing social environment. We share and celebrate the Word of God at home, in the parish, and in the community.
Components of Faith Formation:
The catechesis of St. Augustine’s faith formation is rooted in the words of Jesus Christ as presented in the Sunday Gospels. Our catechesis approach is a multi-generational, family-focused approach. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd serves children aged 3-5 years old in the Level I Atrium. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd serves children aged 6-8 years. old in the level II Atrium. The level II Atrium also prepares the child for First Reconciliation and First Communion. The Atrium is a sacred place where children come to draw closer to God.

Pflaum Gospel Weekly faith formation program serves children 9-11 years. old. Children learn their faith, including instructions in doctrine, sacraments, commandments, and prayer, within the liturgical year. This program conforms with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Confirmation preparation for 7th and 8th graders is a youth-focused online program called Decision Point, which allows families to be involved in the sacrament preparation experience.

Teens Youth Group has access to “Spirit,” an online faith formation program based on the Sunday Gospels and Catholic beliefs following the liturgical year. Teens participate in a variety of service projects and faith-based field trips. O.C.I.A.-Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is a sacramental process concerned with the fundamental values of the Christian way of life. Individuals interested in learning more about the Christian Catholic faith may contact the church office for detailed information. Adult Faith Formation consists of a scheduled Sunday morning Session of faith sharing on the Church, Mass, sacraments, moral living, prayer, saints, and social justice. Men’s Bible Study meets on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in Mizicko Hall.

Women’s Bible Study meets on Thursday mornings at 11:00 a.m. in Mizicko Hall. St. Augustine has an active Men’s Cursillo and Women’s Cursillo that meet weekly. (flexible schedule)
